Dr. Naba J. Borah comes from a small village in Nagaon, Assam, where he received his early education. In 1997, he passed the HSLC examination and was admitted to the renowned Cotton College in Guwahati. His medical journey began in 1999 when he secured admission to the MBBS program at Gauhati Medical College. As a bright student, he was awarded the North East Council (NEC) merit scholarship for his undergraduate medical studies.

Following his MBBS, Dr. Borah worked in the Department of Surgery at Maulana Azad Medical College in New Delhi. Motivated by his passion for surgery, he pursued an MS in Surgery at Gauhati Medical College, graduating in 2010 as the best outgoing postgraduate student under Gauhati University. It was during this period that he developed a deep interest in neurosurgery, inspired by its focus on the brain and spinal cord—the most intricate parts of the human body. In 2011, he was admitted to the MCh Neurosurgery program at Srimanta Sankardev University of Health Sciences, realizing his aspiration to specialize in this challenging field.

Currently, Dr. Borah is associated with HealthCity Hospital in Guwahati as a Senior Neurosurgeon. Prior to this, he served for over a decade at GNRC Hospitals, Guwahati. Throughout his career, he has performed more than 7,500 neurosurgical procedures with a consistently high success rate. His experience spans a wide range of complex and critical cases, earning him widespread recognition in the medical community.

Dr. Borah’s contributions extend beyond clinical practice. He has been the recipient of several prestigious honors, including the Torrent Young Scholar Award (TYSA) in Neurosurgery in 2013. In 2014, he was awarded the Young Neurosurgeons’ Scholarship (YNS) by the Asian Congress of Neurological Surgeons (ACNS), which gave him the opportunity to attend an advanced training program in Tyumen, Russia. He remains actively involved in medical education and skill enhancement, regularly participating in national and international conferences, workshops, and CME programs.

Dr. Borah has contributed extensively to the field of neurosurgery through his research and publications. He has authored several scientific articles in reputed peer-reviewed journals, reflecting his commitment to advancing medical knowledge. A selection of his published work can be accessed here.

Beyond medicine, Dr. Borah has a deep appreciation for literature, music, and acting. He is a passionate storyteller and poet in the Assamese language. Although his professional responsibilities limit his time for creative endeavors, he continues to engage with these interests whenever possible. He has also been involved in social work, organizing health camps and public awareness initiatives across Assam. A natural leader, he served as the General Secretary of the Gauhati Medical College Students’ Union (GMCSU) from 2003 to 2005, exemplifying his commitment to both community and leadership.
